The article, “Equality in Marriages Grows, and So Does Class Divide," talk about the growing marriage equality. Today people tend to marry a person with similar education background. As educated and working women numbers increase, so does traditional household role and responsibilities in family. For many years married women job was taking care of children and cooking, but today many married and single women tend to focus on their work. Though, some women are still working and taking care of their children at same time when earning less than man, house-husband numbers are also increasing.
This article is important because it highlight the changing structure in traditional household. It show the equality in marriages but also class dividing because of changing gender roles and rise of assortative mating where people choose to marry someone with similar background.
We study how gender role work in society, and in this article talked about the changing gender role and it affect on social class.
